Vince Porcelli Racing

March 19, 2008

The 2008 season will see a host of changes to the Vince Porcelli Racing team. We are adding a new driver/pit crew member in hopes that we can improve on an already strong team. You can read about the new member on our website under the tab for TEAM

Wayne Kuchtyn has stepped it up for us this season with a few new tricks to our faster motor. We will be using the back-up motor “PICCOLO,”to start the season and to train our new driver. Sometime in May we will change motors and go with the one we call “QUIDO!” As you can see, we’ve named our motors to reflect the size and power of each. Of course we had to use Italian names because we’re as proud of our heritage as you are of yours.

Over the last two seasons we have had some set backs with QUIDO. The problems have all been related to the terrible job DIAMOND PISTONS did on our custom pistons. They charged us full price and when the pistons showed up they were wrong. Our valve eye lashes were in the wrong location on the piston in relation to the combustion chamber. Needless to say, we had to have the pistons machined to clearance the valves. This cost us a machining fee we should have never had to incur and knocked our compression ratio down quite a bit.

DON’T EVER USE DIAMOND PISTONS!!!!!!! They are not the kind of people I would use again and will make sure to tell everyone. Rude would be a good way to explain how they treat customers and useless is a good description of how I feel about their sales guy.

This year we went with Ross Pistons and Ross actually worked with Wayne to design our own piston. Wayne sent them the head and a mold of what he wants, we should have those by April 1st. This will allow us to gain back about 3 pts in compression, somewhere around 15 or 16 to 1 and we will be able to use a longer rod which equates to more torque. Also, Wayne has done a little R&D work on the heads and spec’d a new cam for this season.

Our car weighs in at about 2700 lbs with all liquids topped off and a 175 lb driver. That doesn’t seem like a lot of weight but when you consider we are running a small block Windsor motor with a powerglide trans shifting at 6700rpms, 4.30 gears and 33” tall tires, it’s hard to believe it will go that fast or launch that hard. Wayne knows how to build power and JPT knows how to put it down to the pavement.

Our first day of testing this season, weather permitting, will be April 12th at Lapeer dragway.

Thank you to our sponsors, they can be contacted thru a link from our website, www.vporcelliracing.com All are very reputable and very good at what they do. Please tell them I sent you.
