Livonia Civic Chorus
Meet Our People

Our Director: Donna Gleason

Donna assumed directorship of the Livonia Civic Chorus in February 2003. Prior to that, she had been the accompanist for the group since September 2002. She also works as an accompanist at Walled Lake Western High School and Vocal Director for many of their musicals. She leads a praise team at Ward Church on Tuesdays for their WOW program. In her spare time, she plays on a praise team at Orchard Grove Community Church where she and her husband Mark are members. For 22 years, she was music minister at Redford Baptist Church. She has a degree in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Michigan, although much of her work was completed at the University of Kansas. Donna and her husband have two children, a son in Dallas and a daughter (and son-in-law) in Syracuse, NY.

Our Accompanist: Rimma Stolbov

Rimma became the chorus accompanist in September 2004. Rimma graduated from the Musical College of Latvia and has over 25 years of experience teaching piano lessons and accompanying Rhythmic Gymnastics competitions. Currently, she gives private lessons, plays for the Glengary Elementary School productions, as well as helps at the Walled Lake Western High School Music Department.

LCC Charter Member: Hank Kanar

This tribute was written by Pamela Meyer for the LCC’s 40th Anniversary Show performed in May 2005:

Hank has been with the chorus since it first began in 1965. He is married to a wonderful woman named Nancy and they have 3 children (2 sons and 1 daughter). Hank taught and practiced dentistry at the University of Michigan, specializing in Pediatric Dentistry. He has donated his time to participate in a special camp which brought in less fortunate children for dental work. After his retirement, he went to Germany to work on a military base as a dentist. He is truly a humble and remarkable human being. For those of us who have had the extreme pleasure of his company, we are eternally grateful. Hank has always been a member that we have all been able to count on. As one chorus member put it, “Hank contributes so much in so many of his own special ways.” Aside from having such a charming voice, he can dance and act with the best of them. Creativity is all around Hank outside of the musical realm which includes but is not limited to sets, writing and the business side of the chorus. There is always a positive nature with Hank and those positive outlooks are infectious. When you come to practice you can always count on hank to tell you a great joke or two which will undoubtedly put a smile on anyone’s face. He has touched so many lives throughout these 40 years.
